Best Part of Fall?

by Lindsay 10. September 2007 07:19

So here's the thing:  I adore Fall.  It's my favorite season.  I love the crisp, the cool, the smells.  Ah, bliss.

I love the fact that new shows will be on TV, that there will be new stuff on the horizon.  I love the foods of Fall, the gorgeous flowers in the Farmers' Market--all those rusty mums and lovely oranges.

How 'bout you?  Do you like Fall?  Or what's your I-feel-good season?

Hi Lindsay,
Yes, I'll admit to wearing the necklace. Often :-). Thanks again for your congrats and for your advice before the conference to simply relax and enjoy the Dallas festivities. Wise words. BTW, I loved your observations on the spring and fall colors vs. their temperatures. I was certainly feeling that tinge of coolness last night...

Marilyn, I'm with you. I love a long, easy slide into winter, and could almost be talked into Kelle's two-months long winter!

If spring stayed cool longer, it might be my favorite. Have you ever noticed how the cool of spring is tinged with warm while the warm of fall is tinged with the chill of arriving winter? Can be the same temperature, but it feels different.

To me, anyway.

So, Ms. Marilyn, do you wear your Golden Heart necklace for winning your category in writing at the National Conference?! Again, mega congrats!

Well, Kelle, that's an interesting take! A two-months long winter. Hmmmm. I could be persuaded.

But do you think then we'd appreciate spring as much? If we hadn't been beaten up by winter? :)

So what's in your stack of books for the winter? Do you ever re-read your own books?

I'll add my vote for fall. First, because it means the end of the heat and humidity--you'll never find me retiring to Florida. Second, for us curvier types, fall and winter clothing is soooo much more flattering than summer's brief apparel. And third because it usually means I'm starting a new Scumble River book.

It's nice to go "home" and discover what Skye and the gang have been doing. Since my books come out in April and I'm usually promoting or on a book tour for April-June, I usually take July and August to try and write something off series. Last year it was Making Waves a spicy/humorous romance and this summer it's been a proposal for a paranormal romantic mystery series.

It's fun working on something new, but I love going home.

I like fall. I like wearing sweatshirts and jeans and feeling the temperature drop to "just right." Of course, there is always the unhappy thought that winter is coming next. Actually I like winter, too. I just think it hangs around too long. Winter should only be two months long, tops (I'd pick December and January).

So here's to fall. New beginnings. Warm days. Cool nights. Memories of campfires and roasted marshmallows.

Have a great season.

Oh, by the way, winter is an excellent time to curl up with a stack of books! I plan to.

Hi Lindsey -- lovely site! As for fall, I never really appreciate its beauty because I'm too busy mourning the loss of summer. LOL. Hope you enjoy the season, tho!

Fall has always been my favorite season, too. I love everything about it: The crunchy leaves, the cooler temperatures, the bright reds-yellows-oranges, the holidays celebrated during the autumn months and, yes--now that you mention it--the new shows that'll soon be on TV... I enjoy spring and summer, and I tolerate winter, but fall I simply adore and always wish it lasted longer.

RE DENISE SWANSON'S SCUMBLE RIVER MYSTERIES--

Hey, Denise, how'd you come up w/that place idea? I've always wondered. BTW, did I ever tell you how much my friend LOVED MURDER OF A BOTOXED BLONDE? One of the all time great titles.

All of your titles are so good. Color me bright green with envy!

BECKY BARKER'S COMMENT--

Well, I missed up and ended up saving before I'd written anything. Duh.

Anyway, Becky, I went over to your website--what fun! What are you working on right now? Want to share? :)

My windows are wide open at the moment, and all this gorgeous, chilly air is coming in. I almost need a sweatshirt--so I'm not, like you, mourning the end of summer! But I can understand.

Now, if I lived near the beach, near water, nah, fall would be of NO interest whatsoever!

Rob and Emily were in for the weekend, and we went to a French Market today. I know a lot of you are familiar with them, but for those who aren't, basically, it's farmer's market luxe with extra things such as jewelry, pottery, special art work.

It was such fun to smell the kettle korn, the bratwurst, the flowers--gorgeous, huge bouquets of fall slowers. A local French woman had a table filled w/various kinds of home-cured olives, all glisteny with oil and fragrant with rosemary, garlic and swimming in different brines. One table had fresh baked pretzel bread--oh my goodness! And goodness indeed it is!

Made me want to gear up and hit a Friday night football game!

But not to have a brat! Haven't quite gotten that part of midwestern cuisine!

It just looked and smelled like Fall. A real energizer.

Do a lot of you have French Markets or Farmers' Markets in our area?

I know this is weird, replying to mine own post, but I'm looking out my office window, and a storm's coming in, bringing with it actual autumnal temperatures. It's very energizing to see the clouds whipping past and feel the air start to cool down.

And while all this is happening, I get to make up stories! Is life good, or what?

I'm clearly ready to toss out ratty tatty summer and welcome in classic, elegant fall.
